Baptism class is held 7:00 PM every second Wednesday of each month and is required before or after the birth of the first child. Call the Parish Office to make arrangements.
Engaged couples should contact Deacon Ken at least nine months prior to the planned wedding date; this allows sufficient time to complete the Marriage Preparation Process. Weddings are usually celebrated on Saturdays, although they may be scheduled on other days when the circumstances require it. A booklet is given to engaged couples that explains both the Preparation Process and parish policies for wedding ceremonies.
FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST
Preparation for these sacraments is part of the curriculum in our School of Religion.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation for high school youth is part of the youth ministry program. Adult confirmation is held annually for any adult who has not been confirmed. For information regarding Confirming Faith Program, please inquire at the Parish Office.
The process whereby individuals prepare for full initiation into the Catholic Church is the Catechumenate. It focuses on ongoing conversion and growth in response to God’s call to the individual. Members of the parish are involved as worshiping community, sponsors, and in many other ways. Sessions are held weekly, from September through Pentecost. This process is for adults (unbaptized or baptized) who wish to learn about the Catholic Faith. We also have a “Children’s Catechumenate” for youth of catechetical age who have not been baptized. Please inquire through the Parish Office.
SCHOOL OF RELIGION
Our School of Religion serves the children of the parish, first grade through junior high. Classes are held on Monday evening from 7:00-8:00 PM from September to May. We invite and encourage our 7th and 8th grade students to continue their studies in School of Religion. This is in addition to the Junior High Youth Ministry that meet on Wednesday evenings.
We attempt to give each student a vital experience of his/her faith. Our classes are staffed by volunteer catechists and assistants. We are always happy to welcome new students to our program, even those with no previous religious education. They will usually be placed in their appropriate grade level and receive any special attention that is necessary.
Come share God’s Word - Join with fellow parishioners in coming to a fuller understanding of the Scriptures. Scripture Study is offered on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 9:30 AM.
Every other Tuesday we meet from 9:30 - 10:30 AM in the Parish Hall for coffee, doughnuts, fellowship, and discussion.
Our Youth Ministry strives to meet relational, spiritual, and emotional needs of our youth, grades 7 through 12. Seasonal ministry for our college age young adults is also provided. Our parish youth ministry is coordinated by Deacon Ken Fuenfhausen.
Each Sunday, there are activities scheduled for our high school youth. The variety of activities includes: youth evenings (which deal with topics of faith and personal growth), and trips to local attractions. Special annual events include a June canoe trip, lock-in/retreat, weekend retreat, sports lock-in at William Jewel College, and a week long mission trip to Appalachia. Monthly service projects are also scheduled.
High school youth also gather each Tuesday year round for Prayer Breakfast, 6:45-7:15 AM. Continental breakfast is served along with great fellowship and a 20 minute prayer service. Since December, 1984, prayer breakfasts have been a great way to begin the day. Rides to school are available.
Confirming Faith is our confirmation preparation program. Through this program, a participant is immersed in the ongoing life of the high school youth community. Any youth entering grades 10 through 12 is welcome to join Confirming Faith in September and receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of the following year.
JUNIOR HIGH MINISTRY
Our Junior high ministry is for students grades 6 through 8. Junior high youth gather each 2nd, 4th, and 5th Wednesdays. Topics of faith and personal growth are explored most evenings, interspersed with community building activities (mini-golf, hayride, etc) and service opportunities. Most Wednesdays, the time for junior high is 7:00-9:00 PM with the gym open at 6:30.
8:00 - 9:00 AM – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Each Wednesday following the 6:30 PM Mass.
Third Sunday each month after 10:30 AM Mass.
Parishioners who have had previous marriages are assisted through the Church’s Annulment process. Each year we are able to bless many marriages in the Church, sometimes ending years of pain for a Catholic who has not been able to receive the Sacraments. Deacon Ken Fuenfhausen, Sister Clare Gappa and Deacon Mike Dennis serve as advocates to help individuals with this process.
Coordinator Bob LaDue. If you are unable to attend Mass due to age, illness, or are recovering from surgery, call the parish office so that Communion may be brought to you.
Leslie Guillot – 816-361-2666.
Our Parish Food Pantry helps the people of our area who are experiencing difficult times. On the first Sunday of each month we ask you to bring non-perishable items to stock the pantry; cash donations are welcomed anytime.
Volunteers from the parish also help with such community projects as Holy Family Worker House (providing meals for the homeless) and Helping Hands (home repairs and yard work for parishioners with special needs). Contact the Parish Office for information.
We offer a fully-staffed, fully-equipped program for parents who would like their pre-school age children to have some contact with other children their age, to learn new skills (based on their age and ability), and to give their parents a little break.
The Little Lambs program is available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Ministers of Care are men and women of our parish
who, after a skill-training session, visit the hospitalized and homebound.
Please notify the Parish Office if you or a member of your family is
hospitalized or in need of our ministry.
Mollie Lannigan and Sister Clare coordinate this program. If you are willing to serve as a Minister of Care, please contact the Parish Office.
ALTAR AND ROSARY SOCIETY
Altar and Rosary membership is open to all women of the parish. In addition to four general meetings each year, the Altar and Rosary Society sponsors several major projects through the year, including the Fall Craft Show. Renee Jordan - President, Connie Ramirez - Vice President, Marcia Rumans - Secretary, Mollie Lannigan - Treasurer.
Each year a group of women make a hand made quilt. Chances to win this quilt are sold and the winner is drawn at our annual Apple Cider Craft Show held in November. The proceeds from the quilt go to the work of the Altar & Rosary Society
The Coronation Family Parish Pastoral Council is composed of nine members of the parish selected through a discernment process, one representative of the Youth Community, one staff member, and the pastor. The Council’s goal is to discern the needs of the parish and create a vision for the future.
VOCATION COMMITTEE
This committee fosters vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life. Programs such as the traveling Vocation Crucifix, letters to students, and support of seminarians and postulants are all part of the committee’s work to foster and support vocations. The vocation committee participates in the Southeast Kansas City Serra Club which meets monthly at Coronation. Contact Deacon Mike Dennis for more information at: 761-6478.
