Today we celebrate Mother’s Day. As I write this on Monday, May 9th, a friend who is a Franciscan Sister (CFR), is in Fatima. When she was a girl she went to Fatima and sensed a vocation to Religious Life. Off she went to college though. After graduation while encountering young people with Crossroads she saw that vocational call again, from when she was a girl, and she followed it. Today she thanks Our Lady of Fatima for her vocation. One of my best friends from Pre-Theology is now a priest with the Marians of the Immaculate Conception; he credits Our Lady of Fatima for putting him on his vocational journey.
On this Mother’s Day let us be thankful for all the good our mothers have done for us. Let us look to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to her son and forgive any failings in our mothers’ lives. Then, let us believe that by praying the Rosary the first promise will come true; that Mary’s help with signal graces will assist us in following her son in all ways. May we see many of our young people follow Jesus in vocations dedicated to him, too, as my Franciscan Sister and my Marian Priest friends.
